In freeplay mode, there are no levels. You start a save by selecting a map, competitors, difficulty, and starting funds. The game starts with only three markets unlocked: Calculators, Virtual Pets, and Cassette Players. You create blueprints, produce products, and advance and unlock markets as you would in a level during a campaign.

Although there are no explicit goals, there are milestones you can hit by increasing the number of products sold in the past in-game year.

Competitors

There are nine competitors available to choose from, which have their own base difficulty. You can select up to three competitors, or none at all.

Competitor Strength

Modifies the general strength of the competitors. This setting will mainly affect the maximum production limits and the ranking performance.

  4. Senior Employee
  5. Seasoned Veteran

Competitor Aggressivity

Aggressive competitors are not better, but faster. Depending on the setting, they can act in different ways:

  • Passive: Competitors will mostly react to the player
  • Barks: Competitors will sometimes advance markets.
  • Bites: Competitors also unlock markets.
  • No Mercy: Competitors will not wait for you.

Starting Assets

Defines how much money, success points, and discovery points the company has at the start. The money can either be a lump sum or a loan, which will gain interest and you will eventually need to pay back.

There are 8 options to choose from:

  • Close to None (Loan)
  • Low Assets (Loan)
  • Moderate Assets (Loan)
  • Moderate Assets

Starting Technology Level

Enables more research unlocked and higher market development right off the bat.

Running Costs Factor

Modifies the wages of employees and upkeep costs of machines. 0% 75% 100% 110% 125% 140%

Modifies the costs of hiring employees and buying machines. 0.5 1.0 1.5 2.0

Deconstruction Returns

Modifies the amount of money you get back when deconstructing buildables like tables, shelves, and machines. 0% 50% 80% 100%

Market Settings

Market Difficulty

A lower difficulty gives you more leeway in designing products, and they can be sold for a higher profit.

Market Phase Amount

Changes the amount of phases, lower phase amount means less market development. If the market reaches a certain tech level with phases left, the market will randomize some requirements and constantly increase demand and base price. Most markets will be fully developed after 20 phases.

Market Pacing

Changes the required sales to advance a phase. If competitors are not set to passive they can advance markets as soon requirements are met, to slow them down you can use this setting.

Bank Settings

Modifies not only loan amounts, but also how well banks rate your credibility. Harder banks demand higher interests.

Assignment Frequency

Assignments are additional task for you and the competitors. You get rewarded for each delivered item. The company delivering the biggest amount of items will receive an additional reward. Assignment scope and rewards scale with the number of active companies.

Game Over

By default the game is over when your company has been in debt for 180 days. This option disable the game over state.

  • Removes upkeep costs from constructions like machines and specialty conveyors. Makes it impossible to get a game over.
